App reskinning is the process of using 100% of an app’s functionality code, and only changing some parts of the design, such as colors, fonts, sounds, graphics.
For example, you can take a Super Mario gaming app and reskin it by replacing Mario with a dog and call it Super Dog.
The gaming app would work exactly the same, using the same functionality, but you’re jumping around with a dog.
Is Reskinning Apps Legal?
Yes and no.
If an app’s code is freely available, such as open-source projects, then you could use it for a reskin.
If the app is licensed, then no, it’s not legal, unless you talk to the owner and purchase a license for yourself, maybe.
The best way to make sure is to ask the owner before starting a reskinning process.
Where Can You Get Reskinned Apps
Since the reskinning process is easy and cost-effective, you can find reskinned apps for sale on marketplaces like Flippa, or reskin services on marketplaces like Fiverr.
But, as I said, make sure you check with the owner of the app to see if you have permission to use their app’s source code.
Just because you find reskinned apps for sale, or reskin services, it doesn’t mean that they’re legal.
